Abu Dhabi: The World Surf League (WSL) Surf Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic ended on Sunday with a weekend full of fun, excitement, and great surfing. Honolua Blomfield from Hawaii and Edouard Delpero from France were crowned the champions after two days of amazing competition.

The event began on Friday and Saturday with top surfers from around the world. By Sunday, only eight men and eight women were left to compete in the quarter-finals. The Surf Abu Dhabi venue was packed with cheering fans, creating an exciting atmosphere.

In the women’s event, American surfer Avalon Gall faced Hawaiian legend Honolua Blomfield in the final. In the men’s event, last year’s winner Steven Sawyer from South Africa went up against Edouard Delpero from France.

Before the finals, the crowd enjoyed a concert by famous surf musician Donavon Frankenreiter, adding to the fun and beach-party feeling of the day.

When the women’s final began, Blomfield won with a score of 16.60, just ahead of Gall’s 16.43. She received a special trophy made from ghaf wood and decorated with a handwoven Sadu pattern created by Emirati women.

Blomfield’s victory was extra special because she gave birth only six months ago. Last year, she competed in Abu Dhabi while pregnant. “It’s been amazing,” Blomfield said. “I’ve had great waves and great support. I’m just happy to be here, doing what I love.”

In the men’s final, Delpero took the win with a score of 15.80, beating Sawyer’s 14.43. “This feels incredible,” Delpero said. “I just want to go home and celebrate with my family.”

The event ended with smiles, cheers, and music as families and surf fans enjoyed the Surf Village activities. The success of this year’s Longboard Classic shows that surfing is becoming more and more popular in the UAE, with Surf Abu Dhabi leading the way.
