Cairo: The United Nations approved a new project from the Arab Media Union to improve digital media and data trust around the world. The project is called the Media Observatory for Inclusive Connectivity and Sustainable Digital Transformation. It aims to make online information clearer, safer, and more reliable for everyone.

The UN accepted this project as part of the World Data Forum plans set for November 2026. The forum supports ideas that turn raw data into useful knowledge. As a result, countries can make smarter decisions and support sustainable development goals.

Dr. Ahmed Nour, President of the Arab Media Union, said the observatory will work with expert groups and advisory bodies. This teamwork will help build a strong system for managing digital media and data. He also said the project connects media experts with regulators. Therefore, rules and professional skills will grow together.

The main goal is simple. The project wants to close the gap between collecting data and using it correctly. Today, many people do not trust online news. In addition, false and misleading content spreads very fast. Because of this, the observatory will focus on accuracy and verification.

The platform will support news checking tools and data analysis systems. It will also measure media impact and promote clear ethical rules. At the same time, technical teams are building the digital infrastructure. They are also setting governance rules and an operating model. Then the team plans an official launch in early 2027.

After launch, the project will expand its partner network. It will add more monitoring and analysis tools. Moreover, teams will run regular reviews to measure results. This step will help keep the system strong and sustainable.

The Arab Media Union invited governments, media groups, universities, research centers, and technology companies to join. It also welcomed regulators and international organizations. By joining, partners can share knowledge and build skills. They can also help create shared global standards for digital data and media work.

Overall, experts expect the observatory to improve digital information quality. It should also raise public trust. In addition, it will offer a trusted global reference for checking and studying data. As a result, international cooperation in digital media and data will grow stronger.
