UAE strengthens global lead in artificial intelligence as 42 percent of institutions rank as AI leaders
Dubai: The United Arab Emirates has strengthened its position as one of the top countries in artificial intelligence, with a new study showing that 42 percent of business institutions in the UAE are now rated as “AI Leaders.”
The report, prepared by Boston Consulting Group, shows that many UAE organizations are using smart technology tools faster and better than most others around the world. These tools include artificial intelligence systems that help companies work quicker, make better decisions, and save money.
The study surveyed 200 senior executives and reviewed 41 digital and technology skills across seven major sectors. It found that 37 percent of UAE institutions have moved beyond small test projects and are now using digital and AI systems across their full operations. Only 13 percent were found to be behind in technology use.
The UAE recorded the highest digital maturity score in the GCC region with 46 points, showing strong progress in technology growth and planning.
Experts say this success comes from long-term investment in technology, strong digital infrastructure, and clear government strategy, including the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031. These plans encourage both government and private companies to adopt advanced AI tools.
The report also found that organizations that lead in AI see stronger financial results. AI leaders in the GCC region earn about 1.7 times higher returns for shareholders and 1.5 times higher operating profit margins compared to slower adopters. This means companies using AI well are making more profit and growing faster.
Across the Gulf region, AI adoption is also rising quickly. About 39 percent of GCC organizations are now classified as AI leaders, close to the global average of 40 percent. The public sector in GCC countries ranked among the highest in the world for AI maturity, showing that government departments are also improving their technology use.
The study added that 38 percent of GCC institutions have already started testing advanced “agentic AI” systems. These are newer AI tools that can make decisions and take actions with less human help.
Experts say the strong AI growth across the UAE and the GCC shows a major shift toward smarter, faster, and more efficient digital operations in both government and business sectors.
