UAE Shoppers Warned Against Fake Gold and Jewellery Websites
Gold buyers in the UAE are being warned to stay careful when shopping online, as fake websites are offering jewellery at prices that are far below the real market rate.
Industry experts say some shoppers are being tricked by websites selling gold for almost 70 per cent less than the real price. These offers may look exciting, but they are often scams.
Tawhid Abdullah, Chairman of Dubai Jewellery Group, said some people are paying around Dh1,000 for six grams of gold, even though the real market price is close to Dh3,000. He said this is a clear sign that something is wrong and shoppers should avoid unknown websites.
He advised people in the UAE to buy gold only from trusted online stores and well-known jewellery sellers. He also said buyers should always check the latest official gold prices on the Dubai Jewellery Group website before making any purchase.
According to him, if a seller is offering gold at one-third of the real price, it is most likely a scam. He said checking the price per gram is one of the easiest ways to stay safe.
Gold prices have changed a lot in the first three months of 2026. In January, gold reached a record high of more than $5,500 per ounce. Later, prices dropped sharply in March during the Middle East war involving the US, Israel, and Iran. On April 1, gold was priced at $4,765 per ounce.
Tawhid Abdullah, who is also the Founder and CEO of Jawhara Jewellery, said gold prices have been moving very quickly and can sometimes change by as much as 20 per cent in a single day. This makes it even more important for buyers to stay alert.
Dubai Police have also warned people about fake ads and social media posts promoting gold and jewellery at very low prices through fake companies. Shoppers are being urged to think carefully before sending money online.
At the same time, demand for 14K gold jewellery is growing in Dubai. In November 2025, Dubai Jewellery Group announced the price of 14K gold for the first time at Dh301.75 per gram. On Wednesday, the same category was trading at Dh340.25 per gram.
Speaking during the launch of a new jewellery collection, Tawhid Abdullah said 14K gold is especially popular among visitors from Eastern Europe and CIS countries. He explained that Dubai welcomes buyers from around the world, and many of them are looking for more affordable gold options.
He added that Dubai is a global jewellery hub, so it is important for the market to meet the needs of all customer groups, including those who prefer 14K gold.
UAE residents are advised to stay cautious, compare prices carefully, and only buy gold from trusted sources to avoid online jewellery scams.
