UAE Provides $8 Million to Support Healthcare in Sudan

UAE: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has pledged $8 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. This significant contribution highlights the UAE’s commitment to global health and supporting vulnerable populations.

Funding Critical Health Initiatives

The agreement, signed in Geneva, Switzerland, will directly fund crucial health programs in Sudan. These initiatives aim to improve healthcare infrastructure, strengthen emergency response capabilities, and prevent the spread of diseases. This financial aid is vital for addressing the dire conditions faced by many Sudanese people.

The UAE and the WHO have a history of collaboration in supporting health needs during regional crises. “The work done by the World Health Organisation in Sudan is saving lives every day, and we believe it is essential to support this ongoing mission,” stated Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs at the UAE. This latest contribution reflects the UAE’s dedication to partnering with the WHO to improve healthcare outcomes in Sudan.

Addressing Urgent Needs

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, expressed his gratitude for the UAE’s support. “With support from partners and donors, the World Health Organisation will continue to support the urgent health needs of the people of Sudan.” This financial contribution will enable the WHO to provide essential healthcare services and protect vulnerable populations in Sudan.

The $8 million donation is part of a larger UAE commitment of $70 million dedicated to tackling urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan through UN agencies and humanitarian organizations. This builds upon a previous $100 million pledge made by the UAE in April 2024. Over the past decade, the UAE has provided more than $3.5 billion in aid to Sudan, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to supporting the country.
