Abu Dhabi: The UAE has continued to lead in global humanitarian efforts, reaffirming its commitment to international cooperation and solidarity. This spirit of giving has been a hallmark of the UAE’s approach since its establishment in 1971. As of mid-2024, the UAE has provided AED 360 billion (US$ 98 billion) in foreign aid, significantly contributing to poverty reduction, disaster relief, and sustainable development.

UAE’s Humanitarian Achievements and Initiatives

The UAE’s foreign aid efforts aim to make a meaningful impact on communities around the world. Notable initiatives include:

1. Erth Zayed Philanthropies

In 2024, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched the AED 20 billion Erth Zayed Philanthropies. This initiative focuses on empowering communities, fostering growth, security, and stability, and improving lives worldwide.

2. Mothers’ Endowment Campaign

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, introduced the Mothers’ Endowment campaign. This campaign, which raised an AED 1 billion endowment fund, supports the education of millions of individuals globally. The fund honors mothers as the first teachers in their children’s lives, promoting sustainable education.

3. Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty

In support of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, announced a US$ 100 million contribution through the UAE Aid Agency. This funding supports the fight against hunger and poverty worldwide, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to global peace and prosperity.

Medical and Disaster Relief Efforts

The UAE has been active in providing emergency medical and disaster relief to affected countries:

  • Gaza: Under the direction of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has committed to treating 1,000 wounded children and 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza in UAE hospitals. The UAE also launched the “Birds of Goodness” operation, airdropping humanitarian aid into accessible areas of the Gaza Strip.
  • Lebanon: In response to Lebanon’s ongoing challenges, the UAE has sent US$ 100 million in relief, including medical supplies and 40 tonnes of aid in November. The “UAE Stands with Lebanon” campaign has sent multiple aid shipments, including an urgent US$ 30 million package to displaced Lebanese people in Syria.
  • Sudan and Chad: In April 2024, the UAE pledged US$ 100 million to support humanitarian efforts in Sudan. In addition, the UAE committed US$ 10.25 million in humanitarian aid to Sudanese women in Chad and US$ 50 million to the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, a major development initiative.

The UAE continues to extend aid to countries around the world, including Burkina Faso, Brazil, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, and several others. These efforts demonstrate the UAE’s unwavering commitment to providing humanitarian support and relief to those in need, regardless of location or circumstance.

In total, the UAE’s foreign aid reflects a strong commitment to global peace, prosperity, and sustainable development, embodying its dedication to improving lives and building stronger, more resilient communities worldwide.
