UAE Extends Passport Validity to 10 Years for Citizens Over 21
The United Arab Emirates has significantly extended the validity period for passports held by its citizens.
The Emirates Identity and Passport Authority announced that Emirati passports will now be valid for 10 years, a major increase from the previous five-year validity period. This new service will be available to citizens aged 21 and above, starting July 8, 2024.
Benefits of Extended Validity
The extended validity offers several advantages. Citizens will only need to renew their passports once every ten years, reducing the number of required trips to passport offices from two to one. This aligns with the government’s efforts to streamline bureaucracy and save citizens’ time.
Major General Suhail Juma Al Khaili, Director General of Identity and Passports, clarified that the 10-year validity applies exclusively to citizens aged 21 and over. Passports for those under 21 will continue to have a five-year validity period.
The application process for the new 10-year passports remains the same as for current passports, utilizing established procedures and existing delivery channels. Citizens can apply for the new service when their existing passports expire.
Enhancing Citizen Experience
This landmark decision reflects the UAE government’s commitment to improving the travel experience and overall quality of life for its citizens. By streamlining the passport renewal process and extending validity, the government provides citizens with greater convenience and flexibility for international travel.
