UAE Banking Assets Reach AED5.57 Trillion as Credit and Deposits Grow

ABU DHABI: The UAE banking sector recorded steady growth in April 2026, with total banking assets rising to AED5.57 trillion, according to the latest Monetary and Banking Developments Report issued by the UAE Central Bank.

The report showed that total bank credit increased by AED25.2 billion, or 0.9 percent, to AED2.72 trillion. The growth was mainly driven by higher lending to individuals, especially for housing and personal loans, as well as increased financing for government-related entities.

Bank deposits also posted strong growth, rising by 0.7 percent to AED3.47 trillion. The increase was supported by higher deposits from residents, particularly the private sector and government institutions, while non-resident deposits remained largely unchanged.

The Central Bank said broader money supply measures remained mostly stable during April, despite a slight decline in the monetary base due to lower reserve requirements and reduced monetary bills.

Banking activity remained strong across the country, with domestic fund transfers reaching AED9.38 trillion during the first four months of 2026. In April alone, transfers totaled AED2.72 trillion.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank’s gold holdings increased by around 2 percent, rising to AED40.82 billion at the end of April from AED40 billion a month earlier.

The latest figures underline the resilience of the UAE banking sector, supported by growing credit, rising deposits, and strong financial activity.
