UAE Achieves Three Gold Medals at the Close of the Arab Athletics Championship in Tunisia

On Thursday: The United Arab Emirates’ national athletics team celebrated a successful conclusion to their participation in the 11th Arab Junior Championship in Tunisia, securing three gold medals. This impressive performance elevated the UAE’s overall medal count to six: three gold, one silver, and two bronze, placing the team sixth in the final rankings.
The championship’s closing ceremony took place yesterday evening at Tunis’s National Athletics Stadium in Radès, marking the conclusion of the event held from August 23 to 27.
The UAE’s gold medals were won across different track and field disciplines. Salma Haitham Al-Marri kicked things off with a remarkable performance in the women’s hammer throw, achieving a distance of 55.78 meters and setting a new personal best. Her teammate, Maryam Karim, followed suit by claiming gold in the women’s 400 meters hurdles with a time of 1:01.50 minutes. Abdul Quddus Ahmed Ali added to the medal tally with victory in the men’s 200-meter sprint, finishing in 21.32 seconds.
In addition to these golds, the UAE team also secured a bronze medal through Abdul Quddus Ahmed Ali in the juniors’ 400 meters race. Furthermore, Liyazia Tariq Abdul Salam demonstrated her versatility by earning both silver and bronze medals—one in the women’s pole vault final and another in the women’s javelin throw event.
Lieutenant General Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Murr, President of the Athletics Federation, praised the athletes’ outstanding achievements, emphasizing that this success underscores the federation’s strategic efforts to develop a robust foundation of talented and competitive athletes capable of excelling at regional, continental, and international levels.
