Tenth Arab Forum on Geographical Names Wraps Up in Jeddah Under Defense Minister’s Patronage

The Tenth Arab Forum on Geographical Names has successfully concluded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after three days of discussions and collaborations among Arab nations. Hosted by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) and under the patronage of the Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the forum aimed to strengthen regional cooperation in geographical naming and map-related initiatives.

Strengthening Arab Ties in Geographical Names

With the theme “Strengthening Relationships and Links Between Arab States in the Field of Geographical Names,” the forum took place from November 10 to 12. It was inaugurated by Jeddah’s Governor, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, and attracted representatives from 22 Arab countries, as well as experts from the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international organizations.

Key Highlights of the Forum

The forum featured over 120 research papers presented across more than 10 specialized sessions, with 70 experts discussing various topics related to geographical names. The event also included an exhibition showcasing more than 15 organizations, including government bodies, private companies, and non-profits, along with over 25 scientific publications on the importance and management of geographical names.

Goals of the Forum

Saudi Arabia hosted this forum to support Arab unity, reinforce cultural identity, and facilitate knowledge-sharing in the field of geographical names. The event encouraged collaboration in research, the adoption of new technologies, and innovative approaches to naming conventions. The goal is to promote an integrated approach that respects Arab heritage and encourages regional unity.
