Surprise Rainfall Brings Hail to Parts of UAE

UAE: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) experienced unexpected rainfall on Saturday, June 29th, with varying intensities across different regions. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported a mix of heavy, moderate, and light showers, with some areas even experiencing hailstones.

Localized Downpours

The NCM pinpointed Fili region in Sharjah as the location receiving the heaviest rainfall, accompanied by small hailstones. Other areas, such as Shawka and Musseili in Ras Al Khaimah and Al Madam in Sharjah, reported moderate to light rain showers.

NCM Forecasts Calmer Conditions

The unexpected rain was attributed to the development of cumulonimbus clouds anticipated by the NCM. These clouds were also expected to bring strong winds of up to 40 kilometers per hour, potentially causing dust and reduced visibility. However, looking ahead, the NCM predicts a return to normalcy for Sunday, June 30th. Forecasts indicate clear to partly cloudy skies with occasional low clouds along the eastern coast. Wind speeds are expected to be light to moderate, potentially increasing during the day. The Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are forecast to have slight waves.

Looking Ahead: Week Ahead Forecast

The NCM provided a detailed forecast for the upcoming week, outlining varying weather conditions:

  • Monday, July 1st: Partly cloudy to cloudy, particularly in eastern and southern regions. Temperatures will gradually increase. Winds will be light to moderate, blowing southwesterly to northwesterly. Expect occasional dust blowing during the day with wind speeds ranging from 10 to 25 kilometers per hour, reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour. Seas in both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will be slight.
  • Tuesday, July 2nd: Partly cloudy to cloudy, particularly in eastern and southern regions. Expect humidity at night and Wednesday morning over some coastal areas, with a possibility of mist formation. Winds will be light to moderate, blowing southwesterly to northwesterly. Similar to Monday, dust blowing is expected during the day with wind speeds ranging from 10 to 25 kilometers per hour, reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour. The Arabian Gulf will have slight to moderate waves, while the Oman Sea will have slight waves.
  • Wednesday, July 3rd: Expect dusty to partly cloudy conditions with a decrease in temperatures, especially along the coast. Winds will be light to moderate, blowing northwesterly, becoming strong at times, particularly over the sea. This could lead to blowing dust and sand. Wind speeds will range from 15 to 25 kilometers per hour, reaching up to 45 kilometers per hour. The Arabian Gulf will experience slight to moderate waves, becoming rough gradually by morning. The Oman Sea will have slight to moderate waves.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest NCM forecasts for potential weather changes throughout the week.
