Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi Inaugurates Revamped AUS Student Centre
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has officially unveiled its newly renovated Student Centre. This revamped facility, inaugurated by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of AUS, is designed to promote innovation, wellness, and entrepreneurship among students and alumni.
A Hub for Innovation and Wellness
The newly renovated space hosts a range of alumni-run businesses, offering a variety of healthy meal options. These include Miramiah, Wedallas, Allo Cairo, and Healthy Farm Eatery, alongside popular brands like Filli Café and Thumbay Food Court.
“This centre embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that defines AUS at every level,” said Sheikha Bodour. She highlighted the centre as a space where students and alumni can gather, share ideas, and turn their ambitions into reality. She also expressed gratitude to Al Rawabi Dairy and AUS alumna Pallavi Dean for their generous contributions, which helped bring this project to life.
Supporting Student Development
Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Founder and Chairman of Al Rawabi Dairy, emphasized the importance of supporting educational institutions. “Our contribution aims to create an inspiring space where students can connect, collaborate, and innovate, enriching their university experience. This partnership reflects our commitment to community development and advancing national goals,” he said.
Pallavi Dean, the founder of Design By Roar, shared her experience in designing the Student Centre. “We focused on creating flexible spaces that encourage collaboration and creativity. Drawing on my experience as a former AUS student, I aimed to design a space that meets the needs of today’s students,” she noted.
Fostering a Wellness-Focused Campus
The renovation aligns with global trends in higher education, emphasizing spaces that promote both academic success and well-being. Healthy Farm Eatery, led by Executive Chef Luka Cobre, offers meal plans tailored to student needs, focusing on nutritious, locally sourced ingredients.
The event was attended by notable figures such as Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, and Bedour Al Raqbani, Board of Trustees member, among others from the AUS community. The Student Centre is also home to several alumni-run businesses, including Miramiah, Boba Bae Bubble Tea, and Filli Café.
Akber Thumbay, an AUS alumnus and Board Member of Thumbay Group, praised the initiative. “It’s inspiring to see AUS supporting projects that promote healthy living and sustainability. Seeing my fellow alumni lead wellness-focused ventures makes me proud,” he said.
