Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, has congratulated the members of the first-ever Dubai Student Council.
The council was approved by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) as part of the Leaders of Tomorrow initiative under Dubai’s Education 33 Strategy. It gives students a chance to share their ideas and help shape the future of education in Dubai. The new council has 16 students from Grades 9 to 12. They come from 16 different private schools, representing six school systems and nine nationalities. Together, they speak for almost 400,000 students in Dubai’s private schools.
The first meeting of the council took place in the presence of Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary-General of The Executive Council of Dubai, and Aisha Miran, Director-General of KHDA. During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan sent each member a special gift a copy of Lessons from Life, a book by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The gift also included a personal message from Sheikh Hamdan.
A Message of Inspiration from Sheikh Hamdan
In his message, Sheikh Hamdan said,
“Being part of the Student Council is a great honor and a big responsibility. You are now the voice of all students in Dubai. You will share their dreams, ideas, and help improve our education system.”
He added that the book Lessons from Life shows the values that inspire Dubai’s leaders creativity, determination, and pride in the nation’s values.
Sheikh Hamdan also spoke about the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, which focuses on empowering young people, supporting their talents, and encouraging innovation. The Dubai Student Council will give students a chance to talk directly with the KHDA about education matters. They will help share ideas, find solutions, and build better learning experiences for all students in Dubai.
Aisha Miran, Director-General of KHDA, said,
“We congratulate all the students who were selected. The process was fair and open. These young people are the heart of Dubai’s education system and our future leaders.”
She added that the council reflects Dubai’s values of inclusion, innovation, and excellence. The group includes Emirati students, a student of determination, and an equal number of boys and girls eight of each.
More than 90 private schools from 10 different curricula nominated students for the council. After a careful selection, 40 students were shortlisted based on leadership and excellence. From there, 16 final members were chosen after interviews and group activities, in partnership with PwC Consulting. Each member will serve for one academic year, with the option to continue for another year if they meet the requirements.
