Sharjah: The Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (DSQC) has looked back on a proud moment in the life of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah. In October 2018, he received a very special award – an honorary doctorate from the University of Coimbra in Portugal.

This honor was given to him because of his amazing work in history, literature, and cultural research. His research helped people better understand important events in the past and how societies have grown. The university called him “the man who brings cultures together.”

The University of Coimbra was started in the year 1290, making it the oldest university in Portugal and one of the oldest in all of Europe. It became part of the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013. The honorary doctorate is the highest award the university gives, only to people who do great work in culture, science, or literature.

Only 190 people have ever received this award, including famous world leaders like UN Secretary-General António Guterres and former European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

At the award ceremony, His Highness thanked the university for supporting cultural exchange and working to bring different countries and people closer together.
