Sharjah Ruler Honors Winners of Sheikh Sultan Award for Spirit of Youth

Sharjah, December 14, 2024 – His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, highlighted the importance of youth development while attending the ceremony for the winners of the Sheikh Sultan Award for Celebrating Spirit of Youth (SSACSY). The event took place on Saturday at Al Badee Palace, marking the fourth edition of the award.

Focus on Developing Well-Rounded Youth

During his speech, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan explained that the award focuses on nurturing young minds by combining education with extracurricular activities. He noted that such programs provide skills beyond academics, helping students develop a scientific and holistic understanding of life.

Observing a decline in youth engagement, the Sharjah Ruler introduced initiatives aimed at fostering intellectual growth. He stressed the importance of starting this journey in schools, integrating education, upbringing, sports, and other constructive activities to build productive and motivated individuals.

Growing Participation in the Award

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan expressed his satisfaction with the growing number of participants in the award. He praised the achievements of those involved in the program, noting their excellence in both scientific and extracurricular fields. He emphasized the need to continue expanding the program to include more students and provide greater benefits.

Sharjah’s Long-Term Vision for Education

Sheikh Dr. Sultan highlighted Sharjah’s commitment to human development over the past 25 years. This includes a comprehensive approach, beginning with nurseries that care for children from birth, alongside support for mothers during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

He explained that Sharjah’s focus on education spans all stages, from early childhood to university. He said:

“We aim to develop complete individuals with knowledge, education, and a strong foundation in life. After completing university, we guide them towards higher studies, including master’s and PhD programs, ensuring they are equipped with beneficial skills and expertise.”

Structured Programs to Shape Young Minds

The Ruler explained that Sharjah’s educational approach is not left to chance. Instead, structured programs ensure youth benefit from their time and channel their energies into productive activities.

He added:

“Sharjah transforms youth energies that might otherwise be wasted into productive contributions. We thank all who are part of this growing program, which sets high standards for schools and students.”

Family Stability and its Role in Youth Development

Sheikh Dr. Sultan underscored the importance of family stability in shaping future generations. He said a stable home, along with adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities, ensures dignity and growth for families in Sharjah.

“We aim to provide each family with sufficient resources to live a dignified life. These efforts not only benefit current generations but also ensure a brighter future for the next.”

Preserving Faith, Language, and Culture

The Ruler of Sharjah reflected on the societal progress over the years, emphasizing the importance of preserving Islamic values, Arabic language, and cultural traditions. He expressed hope that youth would remain committed to their faith and Arab identity, saying:

“A conscious mind and a faithful heart protect individuals from negative influences. Empty minds are vulnerable to harmful ideas, so we urge our youth to seek knowledge and focus on meaningful pursuits.”

Commitment to Arabic Language and Knowledge

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan also emphasized the significance of the Arabic language, referencing Sharjah’s groundbreaking work on the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language and his new project, the Comprehensive Arabic Encyclopedia. He encouraged the winners to enhance their writing and calligraphy skills, calling these essential elements of cultural identity.

Inspiration from the Past

Reflecting on his youth, the Ruler recalled the limited educational resources available at the time. He shared how he sought knowledge by reading from used newspapers and dictionaries, urging today’s youth to use their access to technology wisely.

“With the tools available today, choose knowledge that enriches your mind and shapes your character. The journey of learning is lifelong and invaluable.”

A Vision for Sharjah’s Future

Concluding his speech, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan reiterated Sharjah’s dedication to building a knowledgeable, cultured, and well-rounded generation. He encouraged the youth to use their time wisely, focus on meaningful achievements, and contribute positively to their communities.
