Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) took part in the American Library Association Annual Conference, the largest event for library professionals, held in San Diego, USA.

During the event, SBA shared Sharjah’s role in supporting books, libraries, and reading. The team, led by SBA CEO Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, met with ALA President Sam Helmick to discuss growing Sharjah’s own library events and inviting more global experts.

SBA focused on improving Arabic children’s books and creating new digital tools for libraries in the UAE and the Arab world. It also announced plans to work with US publishers and library groups to bring more diverse and useful content to young Arab readers.

This work follows the vision of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, who believes libraries are key to learning. Under the guidance of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, SBA continues to build strong partnerships in the global knowledge sector.

Eman Bushlaibi, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries, said the conference was a chance to share Sharjah’s long history with libraries and build new connections with American institutions.

SBA also met with companies like Baker & Taylor and EBSCO to explore new formats for children’s books, digital library access, and smart technology for better services.

The visit helped Sharjah stay connected with global library trends and bring new ideas home to improve libraries for everyone.
