Sharjah and Al Fuheis Win Big as AWST 2026 Basketball Race Heats Up

SHARJAH: Sharjah Women’s Sports Club and Shabab Al Fuheis Club recorded important wins in the fifth round of the basketball competition at the Arab Women Sports Tournament AWST 2026, keeping the fight for the top three places wide open.

Hosts Sharjah Women’s Sports Club beat Iraq’s Gaz Al Shamal Club 79–62 in a strong and confident match. The win helped Sharjah recover after earlier losses and marked their fourth victory in the tournament.

Sharjah started fast and won the first quarter 30–17. Their defense was very tight in the second quarter and allowed only 11 points, giving them a 42–28 lead at halftime. They stayed in control in the third quarter with a 22–15 score. Gaz Al Shamal did better in the last quarter, winning it 19–15, but Sharjah’s lead was already safe and the result was clear.

In another match, defending champions Shabab Al Fuheis Club defeated Bahrain’s Al Hala Club 81–52 to continue their perfect run in the tournament. The Jordanian team took control early with a 19–6 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, they were ahead 44–23. They kept the pressure on in the third quarter and finished the game with a big winning margin.

Tunisia’s Al Amal Sports Club also delivered a strong performance, beating Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club of the UAE 92–68. Al Amal controlled the match from the beginning and managed the game well until the final whistle. The victory keeps them among the top teams in the standings.

After five rounds, Al Fuheis Club is the only unbeaten team and remains at the top of the table. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club has the same number of wins but one loss, which came against Al Fuheis earlier in the tournament. Al Amal now holds third place.

Gaz Al Shamal, Kuwait’s Al Fatat Club, and Khorfakkan are close behind, making the race for podium places very tight.

The sixth and second-to-last round will be played Monday with three matches. Al Fuheis will face Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club. Al Fatat Club will play against Al Hala Club. Gaz Al Shamal will meet Al Amal in an important game that could change the rankings.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club will not play in this round due to a scheduled rest day and will return for the final round on February 11.
