Sharjah: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) wrapped up the first “Pearl of the East Coast” festival in Kalba with great success. The event, held from January 24th to 26th at the Kalba Hanging Gardens, celebrated the city’s rich heritage and cultural growth. Over 20,000 visitors attended the festival.

Festival Overview

The festival brought together a range of government bodies, institutions, and local organizations. It provided an immersive experience, showcasing Kalba’s maritime and agricultural ecosystems. The event also highlighted the city’s key tourist and ecological landmarks. Visitors could enjoy six themed tracks, including equestrian sports, artisanal crafts, the marine environment, and agriculture.

Key Activities and Exhibits

  • Agricultural Innovations: The Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock showcased new technologies to improve agricultural practices. Local farmers presented regional crops such as lemons, olives, and pomegranates.
  • Marine Exploration: In collaboration with the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, the festival offered activities that explored Kalba’s marine life. Workshops on the preservation of mangrove trees also educated visitors about their role in protecting biodiversity and marine ecosystems.

Competitions and Creativity

The festival featured several competitions, including the popular “Pearl of the East Coast for Creativity” contest. This competition recognized 15 winners for their photography and creative works, capturing the essence of the festival’s cultural and artistic activities.

Recognition and Success

The closing ceremony saw the recognition of government bodies, the Entrepreneurs Committee, the Organizing Committee, and volunteers. Key figures such as Dr. Obaid Saif Hamad Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Kalba City Council, and Ali Obaid Ali Al Zaabi, SCCI Board Member, were in attendance.

Economic and Cultural Impact

SCCI Chairman Abdallah Sultan Al Owais praised the festival’s success. He highlighted its importance in celebrating Kalba’s heritage and driving sustainable development. He also noted that the festival would continue to promote Kalba’s growth in both the cultural and economic sectors.

SCCI Director-General Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi emphasized the festival’s role in showcasing Kalba’s progress in tourism, agriculture, and the economy. He reaffirmed that the festival reflects SCCI’s commitment to preserving the city’s heritage while fostering sustainable growth.
