In a significant global event, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed ElKhereiji, represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the United Nations International Conference on Victims of Terrorism. Held in Madrid, Spain, the conference took place under the theme “Education as a Tool for Prevention, Peacebuilding, and Empowerment of Victims of Terrorism.”

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Combating Terrorism

During his address, ElKhereiji emphasized Saudi Arabia’s ongoing dedication to global anti-terrorism efforts, underscoring the crucial role of education in preventing extremist ideologies. He highlighted the support offered by the Kingdom to the United Nations, particularly its collaboration with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre.

ElKhereiji also expressed gratitude to Spain for hosting the conference, stating, “This event demonstrates our collective commitment to fighting terrorism, a threat that transcends borders and impacts all faiths and races.” He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s unwavering condemnation of terrorism in all forms, calling it “criminal and unjustified, regardless of its motives.”

Saudi Arabia’s Efforts in Supporting Victims of Terrorism

ElKhereiji stressed that protecting the rights of terrorism victims and providing them with justice and support is a core component of Saudi Arabia’s strategy. He mentioned the Kingdom’s observance of the International Day of Victims of Terrorism and its role in helping victims rebuild their lives through comprehensive care and rehabilitation programs.

The Vice Minister also highlighted the creation of Etidal—the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology—as a key initiative by Saudi Arabia. This center utilizes advanced technology to monitor and analyze extremist ideologies, aiming to curb the spread of dangerous propaganda and prevent radicalization.

Saudi Arabia’s Ongoing International Cooperation

ElKhereiji reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s dedication to working closely with international bodies like the United Nations Human Rights Council. He noted the visit of the Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights while Countering Terrorism, who praised the Kingdom for its progress in combating terrorism and safeguarding human rights.

Empowering Victims Through Education

In conclusion, the Vice Minister called for increased international coordination to empower terrorism victims through education, rehabilitation, and comprehensive support systems.
