Saudi Tourism Surges in First Half of 2024
Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector is experiencing a boom, with a record-breaking 60 million tourists visiting the Kingdom during the first half of 2024. This surge in visitors translates to a significant economic impact, with tourism spending reaching SR143 billion ($38.1 billion).
Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb emphasized Saudi Arabia’s diverse offerings, highlighting the Aseer region as a popular summer destination. Aseer boasts a unique climate, historic villages, and stunning natural beauty, including Soudah Peaks, the Kingdom’s highest point. The ongoing Aseer Season offers cultural experiences and events for visitors.
Vision 2030: Investing in Tourism’s Future
The Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy plays a crucial role in developing the tourism sector. Initiatives like the National Tourism Strategy (launched in 2019), tourist visas, and specialized educational programs are paving the way for a skilled workforce and a robust tourism industry.
Al-Khateeb announced plans for 10,000 tourism-related training opportunities within the Aseer region and across the Kingdom. The Tourism Development Fund is also providing significant financial support, allocating SR7.4 billion to over 100 tourism projects with a total value exceeding SR35 billion.
Reaching New Heights
The National Tourism Strategy aims to attract over 150 million local and international tourists by 2030. With the first half of 2024 already exceeding expectations, Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector is well on its way to achieving ambitious goals and becoming a major global destination.
