Saudi Ministry Honors Winners of Sri Lanka Quran Competition

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance celebrated the winners of the Second Holy Quran Memorization Competition in Sri Lanka during a grand ceremony attended by key officials and diplomats.

Sheikh Saud Al-Ghamdi, undersecretary for Dawah and Guidance, represented Minister Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh in honoring the winners. The event highlighted the participation of nearly 1,900 male and female contestants from across Sri Lanka, reflecting the competition’s importance and the dedication of Islamic organizations.

Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Colombo, Khalid Al-Qahtani, expressed gratitude to the Saudi leadership for their support of Islamic initiatives, especially Quran-related activities.

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs, Hiniduma Senevi, praised Saudi Arabia for its commitment to promoting the Quran through international competitions. He acknowledged the Kingdom’s consistent efforts in organizing Quran events, offering substantial prizes, and fostering Islamic values worldwide.

Sheikh Saud Al-Ghamdi emphasized that the competition is part of Saudi Arabia’s mission to spread the teachings of the Quran, promote moderation, and strengthen the Islamic identity.

The event concluded with 24 winners across four categories receiving prizes worth over SAR 200,000. Dignitaries, including Sri Lankan parliament members and ambassadors from Arab and Islamic nations, attended the celebration.
