Saudi Arabia Reiterates Commitment to Human Rights at UN Meeting
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to upholding human rights at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Hala bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri, president of the Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC), led the Kingdom’s delegation at the session. She emphasized Saudi Arabia’s dedication to achieving the highest international standards in human rights protection and promotion. This commitment, she stated, aligns with the country’s core principles and prioritizes human well-being.
Collaboration and Transparency
Al-Tuwaijri highlighted Saudi Arabia’s extensive cooperation with the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review mechanism. This mechanism serves as a key tool for promoting human rights globally. She stressed the importance of principles like equality, dialogue, and transparency in fostering collaboration between nations on human rights issues.
Saudi Arabia’s acceptance of over 80% of the recommendations from the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review demonstrates the Kingdom’s genuine commitment to human rights progress, according to Al-Tuwaijri.
Human Rights Reforms
Al-Tuwaijri outlined significant reforms and advancements made in human rights within Saudi Arabia. She pointed to the implementation of more than 150 legislative, institutional, judicial, and procedural reforms since the adoption of Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom’s economic and social transformation plan.
