Saudi Arabia Increases Job Opportunities for Engineers

Saudi Arabia is implementing a new policy to boost employment of Saudi citizens in engineering roles. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, announced a localization quota of 25% for engineering professions in the private sector.

This initiative, effective July 21, 2024, applies to private companies with at least five engineering positions. It aligns with the Kingdom’s broader strategy to create more attractive job opportunities for Saudi nationals and empower local talent in the engineering field.

Supporting a Smooth Transition

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing will oversee implementation, ensuring the quota aligns with labor market needs and specific engineering disciplines. The government is also providing support programs to ease the transition. These include assistance with recruitment, candidate search, training, and long-term employment stability.

Companies complying with the new regulations gain priority access to various programs through the Human Resources Development Fund (HADAF). This includes localization support and employment initiatives.

Clear Guidelines and Enforcement

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has published a detailed guide outlining the localization process, affected professions, and required quotas. Officials emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations, with potential legal consequences for non-compliant establishments.

This move signifies a significant step towards a more diverse and qualified engineering workforce in Saudi Arabia. By fostering local talent and providing necessary support, the Kingdom aims to fuel sustained growth in its engineering sector.
