Saudi Arabia Enforces Hajj Permit Requirement
Saudi Arabia is cracking down on individuals performing Hajj without a permit. The kingdom’s Public Security department has begun enforcing stricter regulations to ensure a safe and orderly pilgrimage experience.
No Permit, No Hajj
Under the new policy, a permit is mandatory for all pilgrims entering Makkah, the central area, holy sites, the Haramain train station, and security checkpoints during Hajj season. This “no permit, no Hajj” policy remains in effect until June 20, 2024.
Violating these regulations comes with hefty penalties. Anyone caught performing Hajj without a permit, regardless of citizenship status, faces a fine of 10,000 Saudi riyals ($2,666). For non-citizens, the consequences are even steeper. They will be deported and barred from re-entering Saudi Arabia for a set period. Repeat offenders will see their fines doubled.
Emphasis on Safety
The Public Security department emphasizes the importance of adhering to Hajj regulations. These measures aim to ensure the safety and well-being of all pilgrims during this sacred pilgrimage.
The crackdown extends beyond individual pilgrims. Anyone caught transporting individuals performing Hajj without permits faces significant consequences. These individuals can be imprisoned for up to six months and fined up to 50,000 riyals ($13,328). Additionally, their vehicle may be confiscated by the authorities. Deportation and re-entry bans also apply to non-citizen transporters after serving their sentence. The severity of the fines for transporters increases with the number of individuals they transport illegally.
Reporting Violations
Saudi authorities encourage pilgrims and the public to report any violations of Hajj regulations. Residents of Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern regions can contact (911) to report incidents. For those in other areas, (999) is the designated number.
By implementing stricter permit requirements and enforcing penalties, Saudi Arabia aims to ensure a smooth and secure Hajj experience for all pilgrims.
