Saudi Arabia Calls for Stronger Global Cooperation to Solve Water Challenges

Rome, March 23, 2025: Saudi Arabia has highlighted the urgent need for international cooperation to address growing water challenges around the world. The Kingdom called for better global partnerships and smarter management of water resources to ensure long-term water sustainability and reduce water scarcity.
This message was shared during Saudi Arabia’s participation in the “Value of Water Community” forum held in Rome, Italy. The forum focused on major water issues in Italy and worldwide, such as the effects of climate change, falling groundwater levels, and the need for new water technologies.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, Deputy Minister for Water at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, represented the Kingdom at the event. He explained that Saudi Vision 2030 places a strong focus on water sustainability as a key part of national development.
“Saudi Arabia faces natural water scarcity, so we have put in place clear strategies to improve water use, manage supply and demand, and ensure sustainable water for the future,” Dr. Al-Shaibani said.
He also spoke about the National Water Strategy 2030, which aims to:
- Increase alternative water sources
- Reduce dependence on non-renewable groundwater using desalination
- Improve water distribution systems
- Cut down on water loss
Dr. Al-Shaibani added that Saudi Arabia is active in global water efforts, taking part in international initiatives such as the G20 and working closely with UN organizations.
The Kingdom is also encouraging investment in the water sector, especially through:
- Public-private partnerships
- Advanced water technology
- Scientific research
- Infrastructure development
By focusing on cooperation and innovation, Saudi Arabia aims to lead global efforts in solving water-related challenges and ensuring a secure water future for all.
