Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has taken another step forward in becoming a global leader in mining by hosting the international Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh. The event, which started today, features the fourth annual meeting of mining ministers, highlighting the Kingdom’s progress under Saudi Vision 2030.
Key Partnerships for Global Impact
On the forum’s opening day, several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and cooperation agreements were signed between nations. These agreements aim to strengthen global partnerships and boost the development of the mining sector. The forum also emphasizes collaboration among countries rich in mineral resources, spanning regions from Africa to West and Central Asia.
Strategic Minerals and Sustainability
The discussions underscore the importance of producing strategic minerals competitively while ensuring sustainability. Enhancing cooperation in this critical industry supports the global transition to clean energy and sustainable economies.
New Discoveries Announced
Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Eng. Khalid Al-Mudaifer, Vice Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, revealed that the Kingdom will announce new mineral discoveries on Wednesday. These include various valuable resources, reflecting the rapid growth and modernization of Saudi Arabia’s mining sector.
Innovation and Technology in Focus
Eng. Al-Mudaifer also highlighted the importance of building human talent and leveraging advanced technology in mining to meet national and global sustainability goals.
Global Participation
The forum has drawn representatives from nearly 90 countries, including 16 G20 nations and 50 international and non-governmental organizations. It serves as a platform for leaders to discuss how mining can drive sustainable economic growth and support energy transitions.
Running until January 16, the event is expected to create new partnerships and agreements, further solidifying Saudi Arabia’s role as a key global player in sustainable mining.
