Qassim Governor Oversees Signing of Jubail-Buraydah Water Pipeline Agreement

Buraydah, March 4, 2025 – The Governor of Qassim, Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, attended the signing ceremony for the Jubail-Buraydah Independent Water Transmission Pipeline Project. The event, held in the presence of Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley, marks a significant step in enhancing Saudi Arabia’s water infrastructure. The project has a total investment of SAR 8.5 billion.

A Major Step Towards Water Security

Prince Dr. Faisal emphasized the importance of this strategic project, which aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by strengthening the country’s water security and improving its infrastructure. He praised the leadership’s ongoing support in developing the water sector and ensuring sustainable resources for all regions.

Welcoming Minister Alfadley, the governor acknowledged the ministry’s efforts in managing water projects efficiently. He also thanked all the organizations involved in bringing this project to life, ensuring reliable water distribution to all beneficiaries with the highest standards.

Private Sector’s Role in Water Development

Minister Alfadley expressed his gratitude for the governor’s patronage and highlighted the private sector’s critical role in advancing water infrastructure. He pointed out that partnerships with private companies enhance service quality, improve cost efficiency, and leverage expertise in building, operating, and managing water facilities.

Key Features of the Pipeline Project

  • Length: 587 kilometers
  • Daily Transport Capacity: Up to 650,000 cubic meters
  • Reverse Pumping Feature: Allows water to be pumped from Al-Shimasiyah Governorate to Jubail City, ensuring a continuous water supply.
  • Strategic Reservoirs:
    • Six reservoirs in Al-Shimasiyah
    • Three reservoirs in Jubail
    • Total Capacity: 1.63 million cubic meters

The project will connect the Eastern Region with Qassim, providing a stable supply of desalinated drinking water and improving distribution efficiency across both regions.

Enhancing Saudi Arabia’s Water Network

This initiative is part of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture’s broader plan to create an integrated national water network, ensuring a sustainable and high-quality supply for all cities and regions in the Kingdom.

The signing of this agreement marks a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s water sector, reinforcing the country’s commitment to infrastructure development, sustainability, and economic growth.
