Prayer Grounds Square: A Historic Landmark in Madinah for Visitors

Madinah, March 21, 2025: The Prayer Grounds Square, located on the southwestern side of the Prophet’s Mosque, is one of the most important historical sites in Madinah. This square is renowned for being the location where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions offered Eid prayers and prayers for rain. It is situated just 150 meters from the courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque.

The square is home to several historic mosques, including the Mosque of Al-Ghamamah and the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque. These mosques, which date back to the 13th century AH, have been carefully restored over the years. Under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, these mosques received special attention as part of the ongoing project to preserve and restore historical Islamic sites. The restoration works have ensured that the mosques maintain their unique architectural designs while also improving their structural integrity, making them even more significant as cultural landmarks.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) recently captured stunning images of the square and its historic mosques. The mosques, built from black basalt stones, feature domes and white-painted interiors, creating a visually striking scene. Visitors can also enjoy a beautifully designed space with wide walking paths, seating areas, and green spaces, including palm trees. Informational plaques around the area provide insight into the region’s history and its deep connection to the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

This historic landmark has become a must-visit destination for those interested in the rich history of Madinah and the life of the Prophet.
