Oil Prices Ease After Europe Agrees to Release Diesel Reserves

Houston, 2 October 2026: Oil prices settled lower on Friday after European leaders agreed to release diesel from strategic reserves following a request from US President Donald Trump, in a move aimed at easing fuel prices and reducing reliance on US diesel imports.

Brent crude futures slipped 6 cents, or 0.06%, to close at US$102.25 per barrel. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell US$1.76, or 1.90%, settling at US$91.11 per barrel.

The move came as policymakers sought to address pressure in fuel markets and improve diesel availability across Europe.

For the week, Brent recorded a modest gain of 0.11%, while WTI declined by 1.6%.
