Arab Times News: The future of air travel is about to take flight in Dubai. The upcoming Al Maktoum International Airport promises a revolutionary approach, prioritizing passenger comfort and eliminating the dreaded “queueing nightmare.”

Dubai Airports CEO, Paul Griffiths, boldly tackles the current airport model, calling the single-point security and immigration system a product of “lazy airport operator syndrome.” This system, he argues, creates unnecessary queues, long walks, and wasted time for passengers.

The new Al Maktoum Airport, scheduled to open in a decade, will re-engineer the passenger journey. Multiple security and passport control checkpoints will be strategically placed throughout the airport, eliminating bottlenecks and streamlining the entire process. In a previous interview, Griffiths emphasized the complete elimination of queuing. “We will not force them to stand in queues,” he stated.

Harnessing Technology for a Seamless Experience

Technology will be at the heart of this transformation. The airport’s design will leverage cutting-edge advancements to create a seamless travel experience. “The idea is to enable new techniques and technologies,” explained Griffiths. This adaptability will ensure the airport remains future-proof, accommodating unforeseen technological leaps.

Sustainability at the Forefront

Sustainability is another key pillar of the new airport’s design. Griffiths highlighted the exploration of alternative, more sustainable personal mobility solutions within the airport. Harnessing the region’s abundant solar energy is also a priority. “There’s enough solar energy here…to power most of the city,” he noted. Innovative energy storage solutions, like cooling water for nighttime building use, are also being explored.
