Najran: The 14th Najran National Citrus Festival has become a key event for showcasing the region’s agricultural diversity and economic potential. Held at the King Abdulaziz Park walkway, the festival spans 1,200 meters and highlights innovative farming practices, marketing opportunities, and investment prospects in the citrus sector.
A Celebration of Agriculture
Organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the festival brings together farmers, agricultural experts, and investors. It highlights Najran’s strength in citrus farming, offering insights into sustainable practices and advanced farming technologies.
Eng. Hamad Al Dakman, Director of the National Center for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Development (Estidamah), emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in improving citrus production. He noted the center’s focus on selecting the best plant seeds and trees, as well as implementing water- and energy-saving technologies.
Al Dakman also pointed out that partnerships and knowledge sharing are vital to supporting the Kingdom’s food security goals.
Contributions to the Green Vision
Raf’an Al-Amer, Chairman of the Najran Association Green, highlighted efforts to expand vegetation in the region. Over 60,000 trees have been planted in the past four years, with plans to plant an additional 500,000 trees by 2027 in collaboration with government and private organizations. These initiatives align with Saudi Arabia’s Green Vision to boost environmental sustainability.
Farmers and Investors Celebrate Success
Farmers and investors at the festival expressed enthusiasm for the event. Farmer Ibrahim Saleh Al-Sinan praised the festival for helping farmers address challenges, market their products, and connect directly with buyers.
Agricultural investor Abdullah Fahd Al-Waili highlighted the favorable conditions for citrus farming in Najran, including fertile soil, a suitable climate, and ample water resources. His farm in Khbash spans 4 million square meters and houses over 50,000 citrus trees, demonstrating the economic potential of agriculture in the region.
