Mohammed bin Rashid Attends 29th Dubai World Cup at Meydan
Dubai, April 6, 2025 – His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the 29th edition of the Dubai World Cup on Saturday at the world-famous Meydan Racecourse.
He was joined by several members of the royal family, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
In his remarks, Sheikh Mohammed said the international attention the Dubai World Cup receives every year reflects the UAE’s global reputation in sports and beyond. He added that Dubai has become a leading destination for horse racing, thanks to its modern facilities, excellent event organization, and strong international partnerships.
“The Dubai World Cup is one of the most important horse racing events in the world,” Sheikh Mohammed said. “It brings people together from different cultures, showing the power of sport to unite nations. Horse racing is a proud part of our heritage and a bridge between our history and future.”
This year’s Dubai World Cup brought together 102 horses from 13 countries competing in nine races, with total prize money reaching US$30.5 million. The final race alone, sponsored by Emirates Airline, offered a US$12 million purse.
The winner of the main Group 1 race was Hit Show, ridden by Florent Geroux, trained by Brad Cox, and owned by Wathnan Racing. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed presented the winning trophy.
The event welcomed top names from the global racing community, alongside UAE royals such as Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed, and other senior figures. Also in attendance were international horse owners, breeders, and racing fans.
The Dubai World Cup, first launched in 1996 at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, is part of Sheikh Mohammed’s long-term vision to make Dubai a global hub for international sports and culture.
