Dubai: Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, joined the University of Birmingham Dubai as it celebrated 125 years since the university was first founded.
The event was held at the university’s campus in Dubai International Academic City, which is part of TECOM Group.
The University of Birmingham began in 1900 in the United Kingdom. Today, it is listed among the top 100 universities in the world in the QS Global Rankings. The Dubai campus shows the university’s promise to give students a high-quality education in a lively and multicultural city.
Sheikha Latifa congratulated the university on reaching this important milestone. She said that Dubai is proud to host a respected international school that supports the city’s goal to be a global home for knowledge, culture, and new ideas.
She added that higher education plays a big role in building a strong creative economy and in helping countries learn from each other. She explained that having top universities in Dubai gives young people more chances to grow, imagine, and shape a bright future.
Many important guests attended the celebration, including Abdulla Belhoul, CEO of TECOM Group; Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Senior Vice President of Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park; Professor Adam Tickell, Vice-Chancellor of the University in the UK; and Professor Yusra Mouzughi, Provost of the Dubai campus. Students, teachers, and members of the UAE education community also took part.
The event included cultural shows, art performances, fun science demonstrations, and student activities. These reflected the university’s focus on creativity, learning, and diversity, which are also key values in Dubai.
The University of Birmingham Dubai opened its first campus in 2017 and launched a new purpose-built campus in 2022. It is one of several leading British universities that selected Dubai for their international branches. This supports Dubai’s plan to build a strong education system that prepares future leaders and innovators.
Through its Dubai campus, the University of Birmingham continues to offer top British education combined with the UAE’s spirit of innovation and opportunity.
