Kuwait-Saudi Arabia Strategic Railway Project Set for Full Operation by 2028

A transformative project linking Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through a strategic railway network is slated to become fully operational by 2028, according to officials involved in the initiative.

The ambitious venture kicks off with the commencement of the initial phase within the next three months, which will focus on conducting a comprehensive study. This phase will center on a crucial route originating from Kuwait’s Al Shaddadiya area and extending through Riyadh city, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Following the study phase, the project will progress to the design stage, expected to take approximately one year to complete. Subsequently, the third phase will involve implementation and construction, with an estimated completion period of three years, as outlined by ministry officials overseeing the project.

Officials emphasized that all necessary procedures and approvals for Phase I were nearing completion, signaling the project’s forward momentum.

The distance between Kuwait city and Riyadh spans approximately 650 kilometers. Studies indicate that upon the project’s operationalization in 2028, travel time between the two cities will be significantly reduced to just two hours. This substantial reduction in travel time promises to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade and commerce, and foster closer ties between the two neighboring nations.
