Khalifa University highlights climate leadership at World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos

DAVOS, January 21, 2026: Khalifa University of Science and Technology shared its climate action work at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland.
Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, spoke about how the university helps fight climate change. He explained the role of research, education, and global teamwork. He also met leaders from top universities and major companies. Together, they discussed how schools and businesses can work closely to solve climate issues.
During his speech, Professor Al Hajri explained the university’s clear climate plan. First, the plan focuses on strong scientific research. Next, it supports study programs that teach students about sustainability. In addition, it builds partnerships that support UAE goals and global climate plans.
Khalifa University received an invitation to WEF 2026 because of its growing global role. The university is known for using new ideas and teamwork to face climate challenges. As a result, it continues to gain respect worldwide.
At the forum, Professor Al Hajri met leaders from leading universities. These included Luming Li, President of Tsinghua University, and Luis Vassy, President of Sciences Po Paris. He also met Deborah Prentice, President of the University of Cambridge, and Evelyn Wang, Vice President of MIT. All are members of the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate. In addition, he met Eisaku Ito, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, along with other global industry leaders.
Professor Al Hajri attended the event with senior university leaders. These included Dr. Ashraf Al Najdawi, Vice-President for External Relations and Chief of Staff, and Professor Samuel Mao. Professor Mao also leads the ASPIRE Research Institute of Sustainability and co-chairs the UAE Universities Climate Network.
Professor Al Hajri said global teamwork plays a key role in solving climate problems. He explained that Khalifa University works closely with top universities and organizations. Together, they develop new technologies, share knowledge, and train future experts. Moreover, the university supports the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 plan and follows the goals set during COP28. Its aim is to turn research into real solutions that protect the environment and support a strong economy.
The discussions in Davos also focused on key research areas. These included clean energy, water security, and buildings that can handle climate change. Therefore, the university continues to support long-term sustainability.
Khalifa University holds a strong climate research portfolio. It owns more than 350 approved patents and has recorded over 800 inventions. The university works with partners in more than 20 countries. It also supports active research projects and startups. This work takes place across 14 research centers. These include centers for graphene materials, advanced innovation, 6G technology, polar research, and environmental sciences.
Through its active role at the World Economic Forum 2026, Khalifa University continues to strengthen its position as a climate research leader. At the same time, it supports a sustainable future for the UAE and the world.
