KACST Strengthens Local and Global Partnerships to Boost Mining Innovation
Riyadh: The King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) is driving innovation in the mining sector through enhanced collaboration with local and international organizations. This initiative was highlighted during KACST’s participation in the Future Minerals Forum (FMF) 2025, hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in Riyadh.
Vision 2030 and Mining Sector Growth
KACST’s efforts align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes economic diversification. Dr. Saeed Al-Shehri, Vice President for Energy and Industry at KACST, noted that the Kingdom’s mineral reserves now total around $2.5 trillion, a remarkable 90% increase from the previous estimate of $1.3 trillion. The mining sector is becoming a key contributor to Saudi Arabia’s economic growth.
Key Partnerships for Innovation
At FMF 2025, KACST announced several important collaborations:
- Local Partners: Agreements with the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Saudi Geological Survey, the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program, Neoleap, and the Saudi Mining Services Company (ESNAD) to create a Mining Innovation Studio. This studio aims to attract global talent and implement cutting-edge mining technologies.
- International Collaboration: Partnership with Canada’s Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation to explore advancements in areas such as metal processing, mining safety, intelligent exploration, and sustainability.
Showcasing Advanced Mining Technologies
As Saudi Arabia’s national laboratory and innovation leader, KACST also led the Mining Excellence Zone at the forum. The exhibit featured cutting-edge technologies and solutions from global mining companies, emphasizing the sector’s modernization and sustainability.
The Future Minerals Forum has become a key platform for addressing challenges and opportunities in the mining industry while promoting innovation to support long-term growth.
