Jazan Municipality Prepares School Areas for New Academic Year

Jazan Municipality is focusing on the streets, sidewalks and public spaces students will encounter as they head back to class, with work covering hundreds of schools across the region ahead of the new academic year.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the municipality has launched a set of community and field initiatives that includes distributing more than 50,000 gifts to students. The campaign goes beyond the welcome-back gesture, though. Much of the work is aimed at safety, cleanliness and conditions immediately outside school grounds.

Traffic safety measures are being prepared around 257 schools, including work on nearby roads and other measures intended to make student arrival and departure safer. That part of the campaign may matter more than the giveaways: the areas around school entrances can become some of the busiest local traffic points once classes resume.

The municipality is also increasing cleaning and public-health work around 1,360 schools. Crews are focusing on the surrounding environment rather than limiting the campaign to school buildings themselves, putting roads and public spaces used by students and families into the back-to-school effort.

The public-facing side of the campaign is sizable too. Jazan Municipality has installed 510 welcome-back signs at different locations and plans to publish more than 100 social media posts through its own accounts and those operated by affiliated municipalities.

Taken together, the numbers show where the municipality is putting most of its effort. The 50,000 gifts will be the most visible part for students, but the larger operation is happening outside the classroom: preparing roads near 257 schools and increasing cleaning around 1,360 of them before daily school traffic returns.
