An important new initiative was introduced during the fifth annual forum for development initiatives, held at the King Salman International Convention Center in Madinah. The project focuses on producing natural silk inside Saudi Arabia for use in making the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba and the Prophet’s Sacred Chamber.
Led by the Jazan Mountains Development Authority, in cooperation with the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the goal is to stop importing silk and instead grow and produce it locally in the Jazan region. The natural silk will be sent to the King Abdulaziz Complex, where the Kiswa is made.
The initiative also aims to support local farmers, create job opportunities in mountain areas, and encourage investment in sustainable development. It is expected to increase local silk production and benefit the national economy. The project has received official approval and was showcased at Jazan’s pavilion during the two-day forum.
