Indonesian Minister Praises Muslim Council of Elders for Promoting Tolerance and Coexistence
Jakarta, March 3, 2025 – The Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. Nasaruddin Umar, has praised the Muslim Council of Elders for its efforts in promoting dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. He welcomed the Council’s envoys, who were sent to various regions in Indonesia during Ramadan to spread messages of moderation and balanced Islamic thought.
Strengthening Religious Harmony in Indonesia
During a meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs headquarters in Jakarta, Minister Nasaruddin expressed deep appreciation for the Muslim Council of Elders, led by Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb. He emphasized that the Council’s mission aligns with Indonesia’s values, which focus on peace, unity, and global stability.
The Minister also introduced the envoys to key programs led by his ministry, including:
- Eco-Theology Program – Promoting environmental conservation through religious teachings.
- Love Curriculum – Teaching religious values in a way that benefits both society and the environment.
He also expressed hope for more envoys in the future, with extended missions lasting a year or more to strengthen their impact.
Muslim Council Envoys Promote Peace and Understanding
The envoys of the Muslim Council of Elders expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome they received in Indonesia. They reaffirmed their commitment to building bridges of understanding with Indonesian society and reinforcing the true values of Islam, including dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Their mission aligns with the Council’s goal of guiding Muslims toward a correct understanding of their faith, preserving their identity, and applying Islamic principles in daily life.
Global Efforts to Spread Islamic Values
This year, the Muslim Council of Elders has sent over 32 scholars and Quran reciters to nine countries, including:
- Spain
- Italy
- Germany
- Kazakhstan
- Russia
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- Pakistan
- United States
Their activities include leading prayers, reciting the Holy Quran, delivering religious sermons, and holding seminars. The initiative aims to:
