HH Sheikh Mohammed Attends Women’s Desert Race Finale at Al Salam Cycling Championship in Dubai

Dubai: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the closing of the Women’s Desert Race at the 10th Al Salam Cycling Championship on Saturday. The event took place in Dubai and drew many riders and sports fans.

Organizers held the race at Al Marmoom Nature Reserve. Riders completed a 20-kilometer desert track with sand and natural obstacles. The course tested skill, balance, and speed. Many women from different countries took part in the race.

Noura Al Ghafli from MyWhoosh Team won first place in the Emirati category. Her teammate Ayesha Foolad finished second. Hamda bin Hammad came third. As a result, MyWhoosh Team secured all top three spots.

In the Open category, Nina Kessler from Omniyat Shabab Al Ahli Team won first place. Nicole Louise Frain took second place, while Lea Lienschoeft finished third. Therefore, their team also swept the podium.

Team rankings showed strong competition. MyWhoosh Team ranked first in the Emirati women’s team results. Team Airwerks 1 placed second, and Edge Team finished third. In the Open team category, Omniyat Shabab Al Ahli Team came first. Dubai Police Team took second place. Team Airwerks 2 finished third.

In the 40+ age group, Mouza Al Mansoori won first place in the Emirati division. Meanwhile, Yulia Polevaya from Airwerks 2 Team won the Open 40+ category.

The organizing committee honored Sheikha Madiya bint Hasher bin Manaa Al Maktoum. They thanked her for her support of women’s cycling and desert races. In addition, they praised her continued participation in the championship.

Officials said women’s participation increased this year. They expect a strong turnout in the men’s race as well. The Men’s Desert Race will take place on Sunday with a 52-kilometer course. Total prize money for both races reaches AED 455,000.

The Private Office of the Ruler of Dubai organizes the Al Salam Cycling Championship. Several partners support the event, including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, and the Roads and Transport Authority. Because of these efforts, desert cycling continues to grow in popularity across the UAE.
