Hajj Preparations in Full Swing as High Temperatures Expected
This year’s Hajj pilgrimage is expected to face scorching temperatures, with the Saudi National Center for Meteorology (NCM) issuing a scorching heat warning. Pilgrims can expect maximum highs reaching between 45°C to 48°C (113°F to 118°F) during the afternoon hours.
Extensive Measures to Combat Scorching Heat
Despite the anticipated heatwave, Saudi authorities are implementing extensive measures to ensure pilgrim safety throughout Hajj. The NCM has a comprehensive plan in place for heat monitoring at the holy sites, Madinah, airports, ports, and major roads. This includes deploying mobile radar to track weather patterns, mobile stations to monitor upper air conditions, and satellite imagery to predict potential weather events.
Pilgrim Safety and Communication
A dedicated media production center has been established in Mina to broadcast daily weather updates and safety messages across 12 media channels. This ensures pilgrims, particularly those with special needs, have access to crucial information. The NCM is also collaborating with relevant agencies like the Regional Climate Change Center and the Sand and Dust Storm Warning Regional Center to provide pilgrims with the most up-to-date information.
Pilgrim Guidelines and Personal Responsibility
Hajj authorities have advised pilgrims to prioritize heat mitigation strategies. This includes staying hydrated, using umbrellas for shade, and minimizing direct sun exposure during peak heat hours. Asmaa Oulid, a Moroccan pilgrim, emphasizes the importance of following these guidelines: “They have provided us with all the necessary guidelines, emphasizing the importance of drinking plenty of fluids, using umbrellas, and avoiding direct exposure to the sun.”
Combined Efforts for a Safe Hajj
Nasser Bukhari, a Saudi pilgrim, acknowledges the comprehensive preparations undertaken by Saudi authorities. These efforts include deploying misting devices throughout the pilgrimage sites and paving pathways with cool-colored materials. Additionally, high-standard accommodation has been prepared for pilgrims’ comfort.
By working together, authorities and pilgrims can ensure a safe and successful Hajj despite the anticipated scorching temperatures.
