H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Attends BRICS+ Summit in Kazan
Kazan: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the UAE at the BRICS+ Summit in Kazan, Russia. The summit, which took place from 22nd to 24th October 2024, was hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin and included leaders from 38 countries.
UAE’s Support for International Cooperation
In his opening remarks, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah conveyed greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and thanked President Putin and Russia for organizing the summit. He praised BRICS for fostering global dialogue, especially in addressing major global challenges. “BRICS has become more than just a platform for economic cooperation,” said Sheikh Abdullah. “It is a model for partnerships based on shared experiences and progress.”
Focus on Collective Action and Global Challenges
Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the importance of collective action in facing global challenges, such as economic disruptions, climate change, and growing conflicts. He emphasized that BRICS, with its commitment to the United Nations Charter, is vital for maintaining peace and stability worldwide.
“We are all called to find long-term solutions to these challenges, which is why cooperation within BRICS is essential,” Sheikh Abdullah said.
Call for Peace in Conflict Zones
Addressing ongoing global conflicts, Sheikh Abdullah made a strong call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional delivery of humanitarian aid. He also stressed the importance of a two-state solution for peaceful coexistence. Additionally, he condemned violations of international law in Lebanon, urging de-escalation and support for humanitarian efforts.
Strengthening Cooperation with BRICS Partners
During the summit, Sheikh Abdullah discussed the importance of expanding partnerships with BRICS countries across key areas, including trade, investment, sustainability, and food security. He stated that cooperation with BRICS would enhance global efforts to address common challenges and promote sustainable economic growth.
“The UAE believes in building partnerships that foster the exchange of knowledge and expertise, ensuring mutual benefits for all,” he added.
UAE’s Commitment to Multilateralism
Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that multilateral cooperation is no longer an option but a necessity. He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to promoting multilateralism as the foundation for global stability and growth, stressing that the UAE will continue to collaborate closely with BRICS and other international partners.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah expressed his gratitude to President Putin and the Russian Federation for their hospitality and hoped that the outcomes of the summit would strengthen BRICS’ role in promoting global cooperation.
