Gold Steadies Ahead of US Payrolls Data, Heads for Second Weekly Loss

SINGAPORE, 2 October 2026: Gold prices were steady on Friday but remained on course for a second consecutive weekly decline, as a stronger US dollar and elevated Treasury yields weighed on the precious metal ahead of key US payrolls data.

Investors are closely watching the employment figures for further indications on the US Federal Reserve’s future monetary policy path.

Spot gold was little changed at $4,184.45 per ounce by 0419 GMT, leaving it down more than 2 percent for the week so far. US gold futures, meanwhile, rose 0.3 percent to $4,214.70.

Elsewhere in the precious metals market, spot silver gained 0.5 percent to $61.18 per ounce, platinum rose 0.6 percent to $1,734.44, while palladium advanced 0.9 percent to $1,181.93.

Despite Friday’s gains, silver, platinum and palladium were also heading for weekly losses.
