Global Firms Join Forces for Riyadh Airport Expansion

Saudi Arabia has enlisted a consortium of international experts to spearhead the development of King Salman International Airport in Riyadh. Renowned firms Foster & Partners, Jacobs Engineering, Mace, and Nera will play key roles in transforming the airport into a world-class aviation hub.

King Salman International Airport to Undergo Major Transformation

The ambitious project, led by King Salman International Airport Development Co., aims to expand the airport’s capacity and modernize its facilities. The collaboration with these global firms will bring expertise in design, engineering, construction, and airspace management to the project.

Jacobs Engineering will contribute to the airport’s master plan and runway construction, while Mace will oversee the implementation of best practices throughout the development process. Nera will focus on designing advanced airspace management systems to enhance operational efficiency.

The new airport, spanning 57 square kilometers, will feature six parallel runways and a wide range of facilities, including residential, recreational, and retail spaces. It will also honor King Khalid, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, with its existing terminals named in his honor.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman unveiled the airport’s master plan in 2022, envisioning it as one of the largest airports in the world. The project aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and aims to position Riyadh as a global transportation and trade hub.

The airport’s expansion is expected to contribute significantly to the Saudi economy, generating billions of dollars in revenue and creating thousands of jobs. This aligns with the broader goals of Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on oil.
