Ghaith Mansour

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia A Story of Dedication and Learning

For Ghaith Mansour, a fourth-year PharmD student at Alfaisal University’s College of Pharmacy, the journey through pharmacy school has been more about perseverance, self-improvement, and personal growth than about academic records. While his achievements have consistently earned him notable recognition at Alfaisal University College of Pharmacy, Ghaith remains grounded, attributing his success to years of hard work, supportive mentors, and a relentless curiosity for the field.

“I never set out to break records or be at the top,” Ghaith shares. “From the beginning, I just wanted to understand the science, challenge myself and make the most of my time in the pharmacy program. Everything else came as a result of that mindset.”

While his academic performance stands out, his journey was filled with challenges, self-doubt, and moments of realization that shaped him into the student he is today.

Struggles, Setbacks, and Small Wins Along the Way

Like many students entering the rigorous PharmD program, Ghaith found the early years overwhelming. The sheer amount of information, the pressure of exams, and the transition from theory to clinical application made him question whether he could handle the demands of the program.

“There were nights when I felt completely lost. Some courses felt impossible, and there were times when I genuinely thought I wasn’t cut out for this,” he recalls.

“I realized that working harder wasn’t enough I had to work smarter. I changed the way I studied, focused on truly understanding concepts rather than memorizing them. That moment shaped the way I approached learning for the rest of my time in college.”

As time went on, he became more confident not just in his knowledge but in his ability to adapt, learn from mistakes, and grow.

The Unwavering Support of My Family

Through every challenge, every long night of studying, every moment of doubt, and every milestone I’ve reached, my family has been my foundation.

From the very beginning, they believed in me even when I struggled to believe in myself. Their support has never been about pressure or expectations; it has always been about love, encouragement, and the belief that I could achieve something meaningful.

There were times when college felt overwhelming when the stress of exams, research, and clinical rotations became too much. But no matter how exhausted or discouraged I felt, my family was always there to remind me why I started this journey in the first place. They celebrated my small victories, reminding me that progress matters just as much as results. They never questioned my path, even when I questioned it myself. Instead, they reminded me that I was capable of more than I realized.

More than anything, they taught me the true meaning of resilience, hard work, and humility. Their sacrifices and firm belief in me have given me the strength to keep pushing forward not just to make them proud, but to honor the love and support they have given me every step of the way.

No achievement, no award, no recognition will ever mean as much as knowing that I have a family who stands by me, who lifts me up, and who has shaped me into the person I am today.

Everything I have accomplished, and everything I will accomplish, is because of them. For that, I am forever grateful.

A Support System That Made All the Difference

Despite his achievements, Ghaith is quick to point out that he did not do it alone.

“I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors who took the time to guide me, classmates who challenged and supported me, and family members who encouraged me every step of the way,” he says.

His professors played a crucial role in shaping his path, pushing him to think critically, ask questions, and never settle for surface-level understanding.

“I remember a conversation with Dr. Ibrahim Salman after struggling with a clinical case presentation. Instead of just giving me the answers, he challenged me to rethink my approach, to connect the dots differently. That lesson stuck with me not just for that case, but for how I approach pharmacy as a whole.”

Dr. Ibrahim Salman: A Mentor Who Believed in Me

Throughout my journey at Alfaisal University’s College of Pharmacy, Dr. Ibrahim Salman, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Head of Department of Pharmacy Practice, has been one of my greatest mentors and supporters. From the very beginning, he saw something in me potential that I didn’t always see in myself and he pushed me to strive for more, work harder, and never settle for anything less than excellence.

Dr. Salman wasn’t just a professor who taught me pharmacy concepts; he was someone who shaped the way I think, learn, and approach challenges. His constant encouragement and honest advice helped me navigate some of the most difficult moments in my studies, whether it was a tough clinical case, an overwhelming exam block, or the demands of research.

One of the most valuable things he ever told me was:

“Ghaith, success isn’t about how much you know it’s about what you do with what you know. The difference between a good pharmacist and a great one is the ability to keep learning, keep questioning, and keep pushing your limits.”

That lesson changed the way I saw my education. Instead of chasing grades, I started chasing understanding. Instead of aiming to be the best student in the class, I aimed to be the best version of myself.

I am deeply grateful for his mentorship, belief in my potential, and the countless ways he has helped shape my journey. Without his guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

A Lesson from Dr. Omar Aladhami While Studying for His Block

During one of Dr. Omar Aladhami’s, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Head of Pharmaceutical Science, blocks, I remember feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of material I had to cover. The topics were dense, the clinical applications were complex, and no matter how many times I reviewed my notes, I felt like I wasn’t truly grasping everything.

One day, after a particularly long study session, I approached Dr. Aladhami and asked him, “How do you expect us to remember all of this? There’s too much information.”

He looked at me and, without hesitation, said:

“Ghaith, you’re not here to memorize you’re here to understand. If you only memorize, you’ll forget. But if you understand, you’ll remember it when it matters most.”

He continued:

“Think of knowledge like building blocks. You’re not stacking random facts on top of each other you’re constructing a foundation. If you truly understand the why behind something, it will stay with you, and when you need it in the future, it will come back naturally. But if you rely only on rote memorization, you’ll collapse the moment things get complicated.”

That advice completely changed the way I approached studying. Instead of cramming facts, I started focusing on how everything connected, how one mechanism explained another.

He also left me with one last piece of wisdom:

That lesson didn’t just help me during his block it shaped the way I studied for the rest of pharmacy school.

Dr. Nahla Aldahian: A Constant Source of Support and Encouragement

Throughout my journey at Alfaisal University’s College of Pharmacy, Dr. Nahla Aldahian, a Senior Lecturer of Pharmacology and a Phase Director, has been a constant source of support, Guidance, and encouragement. She has always been there not just as a faculty, but as a mentor who genuinely cares about her students’ success.

Her advice has shaped my approach to learning, her encouragement has pushed me to perform at my best, and her belief in me has given me confidence in moments of doubt.

Whether it was through her thoughtful advice, her patience in answering my endless questions, or her constant support, Dr. Aldahian has played a key role in my growth, and I am truly grateful to have had her by my side on this journey.

Dr. Manal Alem: A Leader Who Inspires Excellence

Dr. Manal Alem, our esteemed Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Alfaisal University, has been more than just a leader, she has been an inspiration to all of us. Her dedication to academic excellence, her unlimited support for students, and her vision for the future of pharmacy education have transformed our journey into something truly remarkable.

Through her leadership, she has not only shaped the College of Pharmacy but also shaped me as a student, a future pharmacist, and a lifelong learner. Her support has meant the world to me, and I am deeply grateful to have had her guidance throughout my journey.

A Special Person Who Changed Everything

In addition to the incredible mentors who have supported me, there is one very special person who has entered my life someone who has made an immeasurable impact on me, not just academically, but personally.

This person has been there for me in ways I never expected, lifting me up when I doubted myself, pushing me to study harder than I ever thought possible, and constantly reminding me of my own strength and potential.

Because of them, I have discovered a drive and determination I never knew I had. They have challenged me to go beyond my limits, to believe in myself, and to always strive for excellence not just for achievements, but for growth, purpose, and fulfillment.

No matter how difficult things got, they never stopped believing in me. They celebrated my victories, stood by me in my struggles, and always reminded me that I was capable of so much more than I imagined.

Having someone who truly believes in you, supports you unconditionally, and is proud of you not just for what you achieve, but for who you are is one of the greatest blessings in life.

This person has been that blessing for me, and I am endlessly grateful for their presence in my journey.

Lessons Learned and Advice to Future Students

Now, as he nears the end of his PharmD journey, Ghaith reflects on what he has learned not just about pharmacy, but about growth, perseverance, and balance.

“If I could give one piece of advice to incoming students, it would be this: Don’t chase grades chase understanding. The grades will follow, but what truly matters is how well you grasp the concepts and how you apply them in real life,” he says.

He also emphasizes the importance of resilience.

“You will struggle. You will fail at times. But those moments will teach you more than any textbook ever could. Learn from them, adjust, and keep moving forward.”

Lastly, he stresses the need for balance.

“There’s this idea that to succeed, you have to sacrifice everything sleep, hobbies, social life. But I’ve learned that taking breaks, spending time with loved ones, and taking care of your mental health is just as important as studying.”

Looking Ahead: A Future Rooted in Lifelong Learning

As he prepares for the next chapter whether it be research, clinical practice, or further studies. Ghaith remains excited about the journey ahead.

“I don’t know exactly where I’ll end up, but I do know one thing: I want to keep learning, keep growing, and find ways to contribute meaningfully to the field of pharmacy,” he says.

Despite being recognized as a standout PharmD student in his program, Ghaith remains humble, seeing his journey not as a destination, but as a continuous process of learning, adapting, and striving to improve.

“I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I also know there’s so much more to learn. This is just the beginning.”
