Damascus: Saudi low-cost airline flynas signed a new deal with the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport to launch a new airline called Flynas Syria. Leaders signed the agreement on Saturday in the presence of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. The new airline will start flights in the fourth quarter of 2026.

This step comes as Saudi Arabia and Syria increase business and investment cooperation. At the same time, both sides are working to grow travel and trade between the two countries. The Saudi Ministry of Investment and Syrian aviation officials helped prepare the agreement.

Flynas and Syrian officials will build Flynas Syria as a commercial passenger airline. The company will follow international aviation rules and safety standards. Regulators will review and approve all licenses before the first flight takes off. As a result, travelers can expect safe and organized operations.

The project will run as a joint venture between both sides. The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority will own 51 percent of the airline. Meanwhile, flynas will own 49 percent. This structure gives both partners a clear role in management and growth.

Flynas Syria will operate flights to cities in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Because of this network, passengers will get more travel choices. In addition, the new airline will help increase air traffic to and from Syria. Officials also expect higher demand for regional and international flights.

Saudi Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih said the new airline shows strong cross-border partnership. He explained that aviation supports economic growth and connects countries and markets. Therefore, this project will help improve transport links and support development goals for both nations.

Syrian Civil Aviation Authority President Omar Hosari said the airline supports a national plan to rebuild and modernize Syria’s aviation sector. He added that the project focuses on safety, strong operations, and better passenger service. Moreover, the partnership will bring new skills and technical knowledge into the country. It will also improve Syria’s air connections with global destinations.

Flynas Chairman Ayed Al-Jeaid said the agreement marks an important moment in the company’s growth journey. He noted that flynas continues to expand into new international markets. Likewise, Flynas CEO Bander Al-Mohanna said the new airline will bring low-cost travel experience to Syria and support wider regional connectivity.

Currently, flynas runs 23 weekly flights to Damascus from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. For example, the airline operates two daily flights from Riyadh and one daily flight from Jeddah. It also runs two weekly flights from Dammam. Earlier in June 2025, flynas restarted scheduled flights to Damascus and became the first Saudi airline to return to the route.
