Flooded Dubai Residents Rescued by Kayaks as Water Level Rises
Heavy rains in Dubai have receded in most central areas, but one neighborhood remains in a precarious situation. Residents in the gated sub-communities of Arabella 1 and 2 within Mudon faced a harrowing experience over the last few hours.
Soaring water levels cut off access to the area, preventing trucks intended to pump out water and security vehicles from reaching the community. This left residents trapped in their flooded homes. Faced with this challenge, residents and likely good Samaritans resorted to unconventional rescue methods. Kayaks, inflatable boats, and even makeshift rafts became the evacuation vessels of choice.
The Mudon development, by Dubai Land Residences, is located at the intersection of Emirates Road and Al Qudra Road. While the wider community has various sub-divisions, Arabella 1 and 2, situated in a lower-lying area, bore the brunt of the flooding. These sub-communities consist of roughly 600 townhouses and villas.
Recovery Efforts Underway:
As floodwaters gradually recede, the focus will shift to recovery efforts. The full extent of the damage remains unclear, but residents of Arabella 1 and 2 can expect a challenging road ahead as they clean up and rebuild after this ordeal.
