EU-UAE Partnership Expands Across Trade, AI, Climate and Security

ABU DHABI, UAE: The European Union has highlighted the growing strength of the EU-UAE partnership, pointing to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, artificial intelligence, climate action, technology and regional security.
In a statement published by the Delegation of the European Union to the United Arab Emirates, the EU said relations with the UAE have developed significantly since the country’s early years. What began mainly as diplomatic engagement has grown into a wider economic, political and security partnership.
The statement, titled “With the United Arab Emirates, consistently,” said the relationship has been shaped by geographic links, growing economic ties and a shared interest in prosperity, security and long-term stability.
EU and UAE Enter a New Stage of Cooperation
The European Union said Europe and the UAE are now entering a new chapter in their relationship. According to the statement, the EU is the UAE’s first investment partner and its second trade partner, making economic cooperation an important part of the relationship.
The partnership is also expanding beyond traditional trade and investment. Both sides are increasingly working together in areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced technology, climate action, clean energy and regional connectivity.
The UAE has also been developing technology partnerships with other major international partners. Arab Times News previously reported on the UAE and US strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence at the Pax Silica Summit, reflecting the country’s wider focus on building global technology partnerships.
AI and Green Economy Become Key Areas
Artificial intelligence and the green economy are becoming important parts of EU-UAE cooperation. The two sides aim to combine their technology, expertise and investment capabilities to support new economic opportunities and sustainable development.
The EU said cooperation is building on the work carried out during COP28 in the UAE. Both sides are looking at opportunities to develop cleaner industries, support climate goals and use advanced technologies to improve economic growth and efficiency.
This direction also reflects wider developments taking place across the UAE. Dubai, for example, continues to bring together energy, technology and sustainability through major initiatives and events. Arab Times News recently highlighted how WETEX 2026 is strengthening Dubai’s role in energy, sustainability and artificial intelligence.

Stronger Links Between Europe, Middle East and North Africa
The EU and UAE are also working to improve connectivity between Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Greater cooperation in technology, investment and infrastructure could help businesses access new markets while supporting stronger economic links between the regions.
Such cooperation comes as both Europe and the Gulf continue to explore new opportunities in artificial intelligence, clean technology, renewable energy, digital infrastructure and other fast-growing sectors.
Security and Regional Stability Remain Important
Security is another major part of the EU-UAE relationship. The European Union said recent regional tensions have created new security pressures and highlighted the importance of cooperation in protecting stability and strengthening resilience.
According to the statement, the EU has worked with the UAE during periods of increased regional pressure, with both sides sharing an interest in stability across the UAE and the wider Middle East.
This security cooperation adds another dimension to a partnership that now covers diplomacy, economics, technology, climate action and international affairs.
Education and People-to-People Ties Grow
The EU also highlighted the importance of links between people in Europe and the UAE. Dozens of European schools operate across the Emirates, while universities and educational institutions continue to develop partnerships and academic cooperation.
These links help strengthen cultural understanding, education, research and professional exchange while creating deeper connections between European and Emirati communities.
EU-UAE Partnership Looks to the Future
The latest EU statement shows how the relationship between the UAE and Europe has moved far beyond traditional diplomacy. Trade and investment remain central, but artificial intelligence, technology, climate action, education and security are becoming increasingly important areas of cooperation.
As both sides explore new opportunities in the green and digital economies, the EU-UAE partnership is expected to remain focused on economic growth, international cooperation and long-term regional stability.
