Eid Al Fitr 2026 in UAE: Holiday Dates Confirmed and Why the Break Won’t Change
Eid Al Fitr is coming soon, and people across the UAE are getting ready for one of the most important holidays of the year. After Ramadan ends, families and friends celebrate Eid with prayers, food, and happy gatherings.
The UAE government has confirmed that there will be three official public holidays for Eid Al Fitr in Dubai and across the country.
When is Eid Al Fitr 2026 in the UAE?
Eid Al Fitr begins on Shawwal 1, which is the first day after Ramadan ends. The holiday will continue on Shawwal 2 and Shawwal 3.
Based on current space and moon predictions, Eid Al Fitr 2026 is expected to start on Thursday, March 19. If this happens, residents will also have Friday, March 20 off, followed by the weekend on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22.
This means many people in Dubai and the UAE could enjoy a four-day long weekend.
However, if Ramadan lasts 30 days instead of 29, the holiday may begin one day later. The final decision will depend on the official moon sighting announcement.
Why Eid Al Fitr holiday will not move from the weekend
In the UAE, Saturday and Sunday are normal weekend days off for most workers.
In 2025, a new public holiday law was introduced. This law allows some Islamic holidays to move if they fall on a weekend. For example, if a holiday happens on Saturday, it can sometimes be shifted to a weekday. But there is an important rule.
The law clearly says that Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha holidays cannot be moved. Even if they fall on a weekend, the dates will stay the same.
The official statement explains that, except for Eid holidays, the UAE Cabinet can move public holidays to the beginning or end of the week. This means Eid holidays are special and fixed.
So, if Eid Al Fitr 2026 falls during the weekend, people will not get extra days added before or after. Other holidays may shift
While Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha cannot be moved, other holidays can be adjusted. These include:
- Islamic New Year
- Prophet Muhammad’s birthday (PBUH)
- UAE National Day
If any of these fall on a weekend, they may be shifted to give residents an extra weekday off. The law also says that each emirate, including Dubai, can add extra holidays if they choose.
For now, UAE residents can look forward to celebrating Eid Al Fitr 2026 with family, prayer, and possibly a long weekend to relax and enjoy special moments together.
