EHS Donates Over 5,000 Books to Support Patients During UAE National Reading Month
Dubai: As part of UAE National Reading Month, Emirates Health Services (EHS) has teamed up with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library through its initiative “A World Reads” to provide more than 5,000 books to hospital libraries across the country.
The books available in Arabic and English—cover a wide range of topics, including education, personal development, and wellness, and aim to support both patients and their families during treatment. This initiative is part of EHS’s broader plan to establish reading spaces and libraries inside hospital wards, making reading a part of the healing process.
Books for Healing and Learning
The books were officially handed over at a special event held at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital in Dubai. The event was attended by:
- Dr. Noor Almheiri, Director of the Mental Health Department at EHS
- Dr. Ammar Albanna, Director of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital
- Ali Juma Al Tamimi, Director of the Libraries Department at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library
- And other representatives from both institutions
Dr. Noor Almheiri highlighted the mental health benefits of reading, saying that access to books helps patients stay connected to the world, gain knowledge, and support their emotional and mental recovery.
Promoting a Culture of Reading in Hospitals
Ali Juma Al Tamimi emphasized the library’s mission to spread the love of reading across all segments of society, especially among youth. He noted that initiatives like “A World Reads” aim to provide people with access to diverse knowledge, which helps develop creativity, critical thinking, and a sense of belonging.
Supporting UAE’s Vision for a Knowledge-Based Future
This collaboration between EHS and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library supports the UAE Centennial 2071 Vision and the “UAE Reads 2025” initiative, which aims to boost reading habits among students and adults nationwide.
Books will be distributed to various EHS facilities, where hospital libraries will become part of both educational and therapeutic programs, offering patients and visitors a peaceful escape and a valuable source of mental support.
